Default happily surprising thing happened today...

in heavy traffic, i'm stuck in a clogged lane, and a guy in a new black MB is behind me. i can see him checking out the audi @ss. he pulls around to my left, comes to a complete stop even though his lane is wide open and starts giving me the emphatic thumbs up and mouthing some sort of approval (or maybe he was calling me a ***, not really sure...). then same thing on the right side later.

strange, cuz often even audi salespeople don't know what this car is. unexpected, but welcome.

Default Good. All that tries to take me on is any MB 500, love leaving them behind...um when boost

actually works. There is one proud new Maxima owner out there who stayed even with an RS6, ummm A6 4.2 thanks to my overboost problem.

Default how do you know you're "over-boosting"?

can you describe the symptoms. have you taken it in? i must have missed previous threads where you discussed this.

i know i've had a couple miserably hot days here in PHX when the engine just feels weak, and the turbos are less effective. but i don't think i've ever had them cut out altogether.

TIA.

Default You can't miss it...

The turbos get bypassed completely so you have no boost at all. Happens to me from a stop accelerating aggressively the turbos spool up, I have boost for a few seconds then at, near or after the shift to second (and about 4500 rmp and near 40 to 45 mph) the turbos are sending too much boost and then they are bypassed (blow by) and just the engine goes to the redline in each gear. So essentially driving a 4.2. Right now the car is not getting boost 60% of the time so not really enjoying the car at the moment. Happens sometimes when I step into the trottle on an on ramp too. They spool, I have boost then womp, they are by-passed and my acceleration hits a plateau. Really annoying.

Had it diagnosed by a very good tech at an audi event and hopefully he can fix it next week. He hooked up his computer to the car and could see it. He had just fixed the same problem in another RS6 so when I was talking with him he knew what it was doing. I can't remember what exactly he said he tried as the fix on the other car. Having mine looked at on Wednesday and hopefully fixed.

Default "just fixed the same problem in another RS6," I think that other "beta" RS 6 driver deserves a beer!
