Default Q's for Urq / Padl2win / Randy Welch / DaveyKid

1) Urq / Padl2win / Randy Welch - posts suggest that you had the OnStar "fix" done - can you elaborate on what it entailed?

2) DaveyKid / Padl2win - ref PIAA Spark Blue fog lights...is the output of light significantly brighter than stock?

TIA

Default D/C Converter replacement

I currently have my RS6 in for routine service and the RS6 tech came out and talked to me. He asked whether my OnStar was red and said that he can now permanently fix it.

He said that there are 5 different locations the OnStar system checks voltage levels and if any fluctuate out of the fairly tight tolerances that are set, the light will turn and stay red. There is a part that can be changed (he called it a DC converter) that is supposed to fix the problem. He said he ordered a number of the parts because he services several RS6's.

Interesting, I asked him how many RS6's came in for service and he said there were about 12 in the Reno area. Reno is a pretty small area and to have 1% of the total build here seemed odd to me. He also said that someone in Truckee, CA (pretty close to here) has two and one is painted the same blue color as the TT's.

I elected to stay red, but I'll find out more today or Monday and then post.

1) your dealer knows about the new directive...tell them ahead of time so they can order the parts

2) absolutely brighter...matches the xenon headlights

Default No brighter IMO. In fact, I think they are a bit dimmer but here's the deal,

the foglight on our cars are pretty much useless anyway, regardless of which bulb you have in there. Horrible beam pattern further exaserbated by the surrounding plastic trim of the front valance which cuts off the side light pattern "spray". Sooooo, I just went with a matching color!

Default Re: Ahhh ok, And I wonder if there is a way to take that Valance out and

make a peice of expanding metal to fit the whole enclosure and cut a hole for the light beam.
Or I wonder if 2 of the expanding plastic intercooler covers could be attached together and made to fit one side.
They look to be the same size all the way back so the hight should be right just attaching them securly would be the trick with ss brackets small ones.
I have access to a metal fab shop and could make a bracket but would have to buy 2 of both sides and bet there expensive to considering the are for a RS6.
Plus that would enable more air to the intcooler and that might be my driving force to get it done , More power from More air
