Default help with oil burning smell (after doing the usual AAH fixes)

I am blessed with an AAH engine. It was leaking out of all the usual spots down into the valley and from there onto the exhaust manifolds.

I re-torqued the head bolts per TSB, replaced the valley pan gasket and replaced the valve cover gaskets. Then I degreased the engine and bell housing with Simple Green. All the surfaces I cleaned are now dry and oil-free. I see no signs of further leakage down the valley or from the valve covers.

BUT (and there's always a but)when I'm seated in the car I still smell burning oil coming through the climate control vents. It's only noticeable when the car is stopped.

Argh!

Where should I look next? Any BTDT?

Thanks,
Dave

Default Give it some time. Could just be residual oil that migrated into places you couldn't possibly get...

without a complete engine pull and disassembly. Underhood wind/turbulence over an extended period blows oil into a lot more places than you can get at with Simple Green, high pressure sprayer & a rag under the hood. Give it awhile to give any oil hidden in tiny nooks & crannies the time to burn off.

Default also don't forget you have a lot of emulsified oil that was cut/mixed with Simple Green...

and high pressure water which facilitates the oil mixing with water caused by the solvent characteristics of the Simple Green. Once that's done any time the water heats up it will start to evaporate far sooner and at a lower temp threshhold than "only" oil would and vapor is the result. The vapor at that point which consists primarily of water is of course going to take on the smell of any/all other trace substances mixed within the water until only oil, via condensation/distillation remains. I would think the "oily" smell would be very strong initially but dissapate relatively quickly. But due to the high pressure wash and the "solvent action" of the Simple Green would have deposited a light oily film residue on even more far-reaching items like cats/exhaust which should burn that residue off very quickly however likely smell even worse, at least initially.

Default I had an improvement of this condition after...

A week of hway driving to burn off the Alberta oil sand that had built up under the heat shields.
