Default I couldn't figure it out then the buyer backed out so I bought it...

Just something about this little 90 thats too sweet and special to pass up on. Especially at $4k. I had to let the owner at Champagne make $1k on it.

Car is simply gorgeous. Far cleaner and more mechanically perfect than any other one I've seen. 85,214 miles on the odo. Hate the Borbet wheels but I'm gonna do a 5 bolt hub conversion anyway and find some new wheels.

Car has so many factory-installed weirdnesses that just dont add up but due to manufacturing date (4/95) it has to be one of the very last ones to roll off the line before the A4 and Audi may have been dumping old parts. Definately an AAH engine and no signs of an engine swap. 93 octane sticker in the gas lid further dispells the rumor.

Definately the small bore MAF but as you'll see in the next pic with an 078 133 471 (non A) 3 wire sensor. Piece of cake to convert to S3 and I'll have that done before the sun comes up. Probably have an XTB or the RSXTB1 on it before Sunday.

Still a LOT of mysteries surrounding the origins and apparent "one-off" status of many things on this car. Did confirm it has the late model OBD 1 Hitachi ECU. Not the easiest ECU I've ever removed. Love the cloth Recaro Sport Seats tho and finally a car with an oil pressure gauge!! In fact since it's the "sport" model it has the entire 3 gauge sport cluster in the center console.

This also buys me some time on my motor. I'll now do it over the winter instead of the next 2 months and maybe some headers will materialize before spring. Only choice I have to make now is which car gets the new motor.

Car runs strong! Far stronger than my stock A4 did the day I picked it up. Cant wait to see how this one responds to some of the inventory I have sitting around.

Default mystery #1: smallbore MAF w/033 178 471 sensor (3 wire)

I won't ponder this puzzle very long as I'll just grab an S3 off the shelf and replace it. But still I find it VERY curious.

Default That's the third '95 90 quattro sport that I know of in Colorado...

...with all of the rare goodies.

I bought my Casablanca White 90 from Champagne back in January. Reggie (in Ft. Collins) bought a black on for his daughter in May. Both of ours are built before your car 11/94 for his car, 12/95 for my car). Although both have the AFC engine code stamped with 078-133-471-A MAFs.

I looked at that car about a month ago while I was passing Champagne, nice car!

Also rare for the '95 90 sports are the body colored side mouldings (that IIRC that car has), as well as the Jacquard Satin sport cloth seats and aux. gauges! Nice find for $4k!

Default Now does your AAH engine have updated AFC goodies?...

...or is it a normal AAH? Perhaps the MAF was bad and swapped at some point. Although that still doesn't answer WHY a 4/95 build has a AAH stamped engine when my 12/94 car (and Reggie's 11/94) is stamped AFC (and we do have the updated heads, lubrication system, etc).

Yea, that's a beautiful car, and yes I know you don't care what I think, but now you know how I felt when I went to the dealer looking for a car for my coworker, and stumbled on a '97 A6 with just 15,907 on the odo. Frankly, I was disappointed that it had an auto tranny, but hey, how could I pass it up??

Good Luck with your new acquisition

Default I'm going a bit out on a limb here and say it is an AAH block...

which is backed up by the 93 octane requirement label in the gas cap. I would also think it has AAH heads but no way of knowing without removing valve covers.

I don't believe the lady that owned this car ever had anyone but Prestige work on it. I can't even figure out how she drove this car to work anywhere near Denver as there's no stone chips in the front bumper/hood area and the windshield is stock Audi glass and no pitting whatsoever. Same with leading edges of all painted parts like mirrors, headlights etc. And its never been "clear-bra'd."

One thing I see is the underhood sticker does say; "meets U.S. and California emissions requirements" which "may" mean it was a CA car originally unless you guys cars also say that in which case I'm stumped.

Default I know this may knock you over with a feather but I do care what you think...

and I'm sorry I've put you on the spot several times. Like I said earlier today I want to believe you and I'm finding more and more that it's my cynicism at fault and not your actions. Many here have been heavily "baited/hooked" on several, if not many occasions and we're thusly a bit "once burned, twice shy."

I needed you to post something immediately about your dyno run and I pushed you hard for it. But if I hadn't you were gonna wait and waitng at that point wasn't putting you in a great light among several here. Anyone can have a great dyno run (or near-perfect hundred dollar bills) with average skills and a sub-standard computer/printer.

I think everyone was a bit exasperated and not altogether un-let down when you just typed your peak numbers in a post and promised us a follow up somewhere down the road. Especially after you were so forthcoming in reminding us of the event the night before after you returned from vacation. Then to follow up with a simple typed post with peak numbers, a postponement on anything further and no further eplanations as to why was/is VERY underwhelming and in light of our history altogether too common a thread for us. We seen such things too many times and you got to catch the brunt of that. Unfair yes but not totally unexpected.

I'm better now, I'm sorry for my behavior to you and please, stay awhile. Far as I'm concerned you, perhaps more than some other have paid your dues in spades. I woulda bailed but tonight I'm glad you havent.

No one was more disappointed than I when I looked at what I had bought and found I only had the upper half of the curve. I want so much to have the whole picture, because I am getting ready to install a set of cams that may do more damage than good!!

My NHRA friend has lined up some ET runs at the local 1/4 mile track to see if we can't run some baseline ET's before we swap the cams. I don't know if my schedule or my wallet will cover this, but I am going to try.

That way, I can give some real numbers to my swap. Please don't take this as gospel, I am just saying that I am in the process of trying to work this out. If it fails, don't hang me.

My intent has always been to provide honest data.

I love Audis and I have three in my garage right now.

I have a 1992 100S fwd with 196k on it.
I have a 1999 A6 Avant with 90k on it.
I have my newest acquisition, a 1997 A6 with only 18k+ on it.

I have owned 6 VW's in the past including a '62 Ghia which I spec'd out to a 356 super 90 back in the early '80s.

I am not a novice, just a learner. I never stop learning

Some of you might call me old, but I am not, I am very spirited in my age.

Again, good luck on your new acquisition.

not too many 90's that could whoop a new(er) sports car... and that would be so cool.

I have an oil pressure gauge too =P
