Saw a VERY strangely appointed 1995 Audi 90QM Sport yesterday...
Beautiful one-owner car with gorgeous f*ck-me red paint in mint condition with black sport cloth recaro seats and barely 85k on the odometer.
Now here's where it starts to get weird. Car has a build date of 4/95 and it has the 4-wire small-bore MAF housing. It also has an AAH engine (not AAH-dot) with aluminum (not plastic) valve covers.
Car was taken in on trade at Champagne and had a new buyer snarf it up in less than 2 hours but all the line mechanics encouraged me to take it for a drive and explain why it feels so fast. They were doing a preliminary check to determine if it needed anything which it didn't as TB, WP etc was all new as are brakes. Additionally it has no paint chipping on hood nose nor a pitted windshield yet it's all original. And they are right about how fast it is. It's almost like it's manifold switchover occurs at 2800 RPM's instead of 4100. And it is deceptively fast, quiet and smooth. And before anyone thinks its been modded or otherwise altered somehow this is a car owned since new by a 58 year old female school teacher.
If time permits and the new buyer didn't pick it up last night I've got to go back today and take a look at the ECU in that car as I am completely stumped by the smallbore 4-wire MAF. And I'm even more curious how it runs SOOOO damn strong with that MAF.

Weren't all 12V valve covers aluminum until early '96 M.Y. cars?
I saw that car when it was for sale by owner, then again at Prestige, it sat there for at least a month or so. Had the 5-spoke borbets on it, right?
Would the small bore MAF and AAH engine code suggest the engine had been swapped at some point? Mine's a 12/94 build and I have AFC stamped on the block.

Friday car - like mine. ;)
I could keep up with my friend's 30v back when my car was stock, skinny MAF and all. Now I blow him away.
That build date with that engine is suspicious, however. Did you get a chance to go back and see what ECU revision it had? I would think it would have to be an MMS200 to work with that MAF. Does anyone know how the ignition timing map for the MMS200 compares to later units?

Re the 30V. Are you both Quattro?
Even with several AA mods, I can't keep up with my friends FWD 30V. Mine is quattro though.
Test was from 2000 RPm in second gear. He just pulled away until we got to about 5000 RPM. Then he said he was backing off. Of course 5K is when my car really starts to go.
