Default EVAP core change

I was doing driver side first starting with the steering wheel, though the manual said you have to do it from the passenger side (who cares?). Removing airbag from the steering wheel is very easy (A4 only), just remove 2 torx screws on each side.

To remember which one is which, all the screws were separated using ziploc and labeled.

This is the source of the problem!!!!

Zooming old evap core. If your evaporator looks like mine, you'll need to change it. Green stuff was accumulating on the bottom of the evap core.

Watch out for this tiny thing when you remove the dashboard trim panel

Default *faints*

How many hours to remove the evap core?
And what's that dark stuff in the close-up? Is that where the core was leaking?

Default 8am to 8pm + (tomorrow for putting it back on)

that dark stuff was a double side tape. It was mixed with the R-134a liquid. I don't know where it is leaking, but I notice that the "liquid" is all over at the bottom at the evap core. =)

Default At least you know that it was the core!

Take your time when you put it all back together. :-)

Default Re: I had my old core pressure tested..........

to find out where it was leaking from.

It had seperated between several of the glued seams near the bottom.

Default Wow....12 hours not counting reassembly time

Glad you have the patience and facility to do this work, but I think I'm gonna pony up the $1100 and get it done by someone else.

thanks for snapping the pics!
