How to pull codes on '92 S4?

I also have '88 90 and test light and I am familliar with procedure for that car. Something tells me it is different for S4

I think you can also get blink-codes from it using a wire and a test-lamp, but I don't have the exact procedure.

Blink codes will identify a problem component, but won't tell you what's wrong with it. Real codes pulled with a scan-tool will.
