Default On the subject of a VAG COM group buy,

It has been mentioned previously that a group buy of VAG COM is being investigated. It will be interesting to see what the costs will be.

I have been speaking to customs and DHL (Ross-tech's courier) to see what duties etc... will be payable.

Basically if the entire value of the goods inlcuding shipping is less that AU$250.00 then no entry feee or GST is collected. If the value is over AU$250.00 then entry fee of AU$55 and GST of 10% will be added by DHL. There is no duty to be paid as this would be considered computer equipment.

So a group buy will most likely collect these extra fees. I will speak to Ross-tech about how they declare their values on the shipping docuementation, but techincally as they are only shipping the hardware, the software cost should not be declared. Thus keeping under the fee threshold of AU$250.00.

This may mean it is actually cheaper to not do a bulk buy unless Ross-tech are willing to ship individually.

Just some thoughts ....

Default Yes, but ....

That is for the software and hardware. The software is not shipped, you have to download it. Therefore only the value of the hardware should be declared. They sell the software for US$99 by itself, therefore the hardware is US$100. With delivery and current exchange that should be about AU$210.00.

Again, I will have to check with Ross-Tech to see if this is the case.

Default Excuse my ignorance

I am waiting to pick up my first Audi (A6 4.2 Quattro) sometime next week. Can't wait.

I have noticed a few people discussing a VAG, can someone please explain what it is?

Thanks.

Default Diagnostic Tool for accessing the vehicles computer (more)

There a 3 ways to do this.

- Purchase genuine tool VAG1552. (~AU$2000)
- Purchase generic OBDII tool. (Doesn't do everything)
- Purchase VAG COM by www.ross-tech.com .

Default After consulting with Ross Tech they recommend ....

the HEX COM which is dearer again apparently the ISO COM won't fit unless I modify the surrounds of the plug in my car, which I don't want to do.
