Default Stereo

Hi All, I was just wondering for those who have fitted aftermarket amps, etc. How did you run the power wire to the boot for the amps? I have a 97 A4 TQ.

I was thinking about drilling a hole in the ECU box and using a grommit. Any thoughts?

Default It can be done...ie from battery to boot!!

Hey mate, it can be done cause ive done it. You can run the power cable from the battery through the firewall, along the passenger side and comes out into the boot.

Tell me if you need further instructions or come to the Xmas party this weekend and i can show you!

Well i assume the 97 model has the same internals as the 96

Default I have just done what your asking about, ill take some pics

I have a bunch of stuff i have roughly installed in the boot over the last week or so. I ran the power through the ECU box, theres a grommet already there you just need to cut the nipple off.. Theres also a really good earth post under the drivers footwell kick panel. (Aussie drivers side!!)
Im building a custom false floor for the boot with a sealed sub enclosure that will fit in the spare wheel well.

Whats going in....
5 channel kicker amp
4 channel kicker amp
3 way electonic crossover
2 x 31 band graphics
Phatnoise 40GB Phatbox MP3 player
JBL GT3 12" Sub (maybe 2 - in a push-pull config if theres room!)
Head unit Kenwood PS-9018R
Stock Bose speakers

The system has had a quick rough tune with my spectrum analyser and SPL meter and sounds fantastic!

People who said you cant run external amps to run the factory Bose speakers obviously havent set them up properly! It sounds as good as my home system which has 2 velodyne 10" subs!

Sharp and clear without being cutting, punchy without booom booom booom, very warm sounding.
Its turned out better than i had imagined!!!

cheers,
I S4 I

Default Re: I have just done what your asking about, ill take some pics

Ill check out the nipple....

That sounds great. I have this to put in:
4 x 40W RMS channel Coustic amp (Speakers)
2 x 60W RMS channel Coustic amp (Sub)
12 inch Kicker Comp sub in an enclosed box
Mega expensive wire.
Also I have an old laptop im going to use as a MP3 player, runing winamp.

I had Clarion speakers all round in my old car, but they dont fit in the Audi. So imgoing to stick with the factory head unit and speakers... for now.

Why did you earth it in the kickwell and not the boot?

If you get some pics send them to Mighty_Highlights@hotmail.com

Thanks!

Default I earthed it at a factory earth post for a cleaner earth

When i tried earthing this same system in my A4 at the seatbelt bolt and also a hole i drilled under the seat, i got engine noise... so this time in the S4 i looked for a factory earth point. No engine noise! Some installers say to have the shortest earth possible.. but that wont make a bad earth point better!
Im using 8 gauge, i also bought 4 gauge but its just too damn thick, and i dont push the system anywhere near hard enough to need it.

Ill return shortly with pics of the rats nest of cables!
