I just ordered the grooved Bilstein/H&R Sport Springs setup from ECS. I'd really like to get a ride and/or drive in your car to see if they're what I'm looking for. I don't expect the gear to come for a couple of weeks, and won't get around to install for a couple more. I do need to find out if I should install the sport springs or if I should sell/return them new-in-box.
What settings are your Bilsteins on (if you've got the ones with extra cut grooves)? My major dilemma is that I don't want to go much lower than about 1/2" lower than my current stock sport. I take this car to the mountain regularly, and don't want to plow. Also, I don't want a super stiff ride, just a mild improvement over stock sport. I'm combining the install with a full front control arm and tie rod end replacement as well. Hopefully the car will feel rock solid and brand new with regard to steering after it's all done. Ping me on IM or drop me an email if you'd like to meet up one evening in the next week or so, I'd love to see what I'm getting myself into. :-) Good luck finding someone with the Bils/Race, that shouldn't be too hard, I think there's a few around. -Steveo |

When I bought my A4 the previous owner had installed H&R Race Springs (I had to install Bilstein Sports after 1 month of ownership, since the asshat left the stock non-sport shocks on - and somehow installed the front struts sideways). I had never driven a lowered/stiffened car prior to this. The H&R/Bilstein setup is a dream on roads of moderate to decent quality. I have to be very careful on speed bumps in parking lots, and I drive extra miles on my commute to avoid crap roads, train tracks and bumpy sections of freeway (for example: anywhere in Kent, I-5 south of downtown, and I-90 between Bell. Way and Factoria). If you can deal with those facts of life, by all means the race springs are great.
