Default generally not from what i hear...no money is exchanging hands so the mindset would infer no tax

Default So then according to that logic, declaring the full value of the warranty replacement won't have...

me pay the full 13% tax?

Default yes, but i would be odds are they'll charge you tax and then tell you to fill out some form...

to relcaim back the tax if indeed it is warranty. I just generally declare a super low value (ideally under $20) to avoid the taxes.

Default It's all based on the invoice. If it's a N/C invoice, no worries. Nuespeed shipped me a replacement

shock last year but since I wanted no downtime, I paid first and sent back the leaking one later. I had them put that in very careful detail on the invoice including the words "warranty replacement" but still I had to pay at the border.

The customs dude gave me a form to get PST and GST back. It was super fast and all I did was inlcude the same info. Stupid extra effort but I got it back in the end.

Default Declaring full value on invoice would be good if you need to claim it on insurance later, no?

in case it gets damaged or lost in transit.

Default Right. That's why the question was posed. If they're not gonna tax you under warranty replacements

then by all means state the full value of the item. But if they will tax you, even if it's a warranty replacement, then it might be worth it to run the risk of damage or loss and not declare fully.
