Default Winter car storage?

Any thoughts on winter car storage?

How much does it cost? Is it ultimately bad for the car?

I'm thinking for the price of an RS4 or M5 I could buy a Cayman S and keep my TLS for winter/when I need a back seat.

Default I store my Boxster for the winter.

In my garage...it costs me nothing. ;-P

Very helpful...I know.

OTOH, I saw a Cayman S up close & personal the other day...it looks incredible, and you know it drives better than it looks.

Default My 68 MGB Roadster gets stored for the winter too... Dad got an awesome deal though...

Its a guy who runs a vehicle storage facility out of his farm property. He has a heatead and insulated barn that is equipped with full security (cameras and motion sensors) and insured. He stores about 20-25 cars each winter... lots of nice stuff in there including 911 turbos, a Lambo, a ton of classic cars and some badass boats too.

There are several independantly run smaller facilities like this that you can find... they are really your best bet in terms of price.

I think we give the guy like $200 and a case of beer for the winter or something silly like that.

Default Re: I store my 911 for the winter.

I built a big garage to store my Porsches for the winter and they always run perfectly in the spring. Always store in a nice clean DRY building....Brad

Default I store my Grand National all winter and have yet to run into trouble. Question though?

I store it in a heated garage in TO. Now my problem is there isn't enough space to get a jack in there to lift her up, so she sits on the tires all winter. Some guys tell me its fine, the newer radial tires won't get flat spots. I have stored it several years now and never had a problem, just curious on your guys' thoughts?

Default It's better to sit on the tires

than to be jacked up with the suspension unloaded. Most say that flatspotting doesn't occur with tires these days and to just inflate them to max pressure. However, I took my 997 out over the Xmas holidays. It had been sitting for about 6 weeks, and there was a VERY noticeable shake from the front end. It felt as if the wheels were out of balance. It went away after about 15 mins. of driving and I have to assume it was due to flatspotting. Last winter, I stored my Z06 all winter without driving it and had no noticeable problems with flatspotting in the spring. I suspect this is due to the very narrow sidewall of the front tires on the 997 compared to the Z06.
