Although explanations vary wildly, the common one is that Canadian law requires daytime running lights. Xenons cannot act as DRLs so that's why we don't get them. The reasoning is flawed since Canadian A4s have Xenons and just use the fogs as DRLs. But since Canadian S4s have no fogs, we also get no Xenons. The reason for no fogs is beyond me...
You can exchange our lights for Xenons, but its expensive, like $1000+. Some tuners in the US sell conversion kits but I don't know if they include the self-leveling features of factory installed Xenons. --RGL |

In order to meet Canadian requirements, and I can't remember the speed at which a front end collision is tested (either 5km or 10km, it's higher than the US), the DRL and lights for nights must be fully functioning when they perform this test. With the S4, the DRL which are the fog lights becomes useless but with the A4 bumper, the foglights survives hence you still have DRL. This is the reason why a Canadian S4 do not have xenon lights as an option.
This is also the same reason why there were no first generation A4 avant in Canada - rear bumper didn't meet the requirements as the door must be in working order I believe. |

I'm in Oakville. Well I also happen to have a US-spec S4 :-)
