Default if you need/want an automatic, hit. power is good, but could have used a boost; plenty for street.

suspension is pretty damn good in stock form. i suspect the improvements in the MkV chassis help that somewhat. don't pay over MSRP.

and this is on-topic

Default you probably heard that from GTI owners wishing they had an R32 ;)

"not much better" is too vague. better in what way?

the biggest differences between them are the vr6 and awd. don't need/want either of those and a GTI will suit you just fine. need 4 doors? go with a GTI. better mpg? GTI. "status"? R32.

i can keep up with MkIV R32s on the track in my stock GTI. at VIR, i was starting to catch a MkV R32 but then the bastard pitted

Default And what've you done to your GTI? Also, what was the typical setup (stock/extras) of the MkIV GTIs

you were hanging with?

Default my GTI is stock == no mods. MkIV GTIs i blow out of the water just on power/chassis alone

at least the ones i've run with (an admittedly small number).

i run track pads in the front and R-comps but stock everything else.

i've run up against all sorts of MkIV R32s from bone stock to my bro's turbo setup. sure, in a straight line i don't stand a chance but put a couple turns in there and it's a whole 'nother game. and even straight-line speed isn't that bad...so long as my corner exit-speed is higher
