noone was born with an innate knowledge of whatever they did as a DIY project, they researched, learned, drew on others mistakes and then bit the bullet and tackled it themselves. I advise this for 3 main reasons...
1: you will gain new knowledge about your car, and will reach a new level of comfort and understanding in regard to it. 2: you will save the installation money, and can put that toward something else, or use it for gas for roadtrips u'll take withthe new nav unit guiding you and you playing with it. 3: you DO have a vested interest in your car, while an audio shop installer doesnt really, sure they dont wanna eff anything up but thats about the limit of their care. You taking the time and having the patience to work on your own car will ALWAYS guarantee better results and things done to YOUR satisfaction (unless youre painting it, thats more of a nightmare :P )

but i have yet to do a navigation system, which is more complex in regards to finding the speed sensor etc. i guess i could get a audi tt specific "how-to" from crutchfield, but i think just rather take the car somewhere this time, thanks for your input though, i see where youre coming from...

They installed a Kenwood double din Navi in my old b6 A4. They do a pretty good job. Located in Parsippany.

so I'm not really sure what their rates are. I'm sure the rate will be right in line with most other audio shops, and I do know that they do good work.
