Default New Brakes + New Tires

Just got back from Audi of Brookline for my 35k scheduled maintenance on my '06 A4 2.0T Quattro . They're telling me I need 5 new tires because of dry cracking. They're pretty close to the wear strip anyways and i'm already on a spare (damn nail), so i was pretty much expecting that. For the new tires, 235/45-17, they're quoting me @ $800 installed & balanced. This seems kind of high, doesn't it? My bigger problem is that i need new pads and rotors all around. I thought this is a little premature since i'm only at 35k but maybe my sense of how much they wear is way off. For this they quoted me at $1400!!! This seems way too high and I'm looking to get quotes from a non-dealer. Any suggestions for a good shop around the Boston/North Shore area? Are my expectations for how much this should cost way off? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Default to pre-answer for alot of others, these places are our places of choice.

this was a while ago, so numbers are a bit off, but you can 'google' all of them for contact info

Default The most important shop of all is left out of that list! ESP

Aftermarket friendly, rates are better, and dont have attitudes just extremely busy!

Default Tires will be about $400-$450 from tirerack. Depending on the shop you go to, mount and balance

can run anywhere from under $10 - $50 each wheel/tire. I hear BJs or Costco is quite under priced for mount and balance.

Brakes can be done by yourself with simple hand tools really. Just need to rent the caliper tool from Autozone and return when you're done, free. Not much space is needed either. Rotors all the way around would probably be about $200 IIRC and about the same for pads (depends on what pads you get). Spend about $400 on parts for the brakes.

I dunno about rotors at 35k...unless this is your second set of pads already all the way around. Generally, a rotor lasts 2 sets of pads. But I've heard bad things about Brookline of Audi, maybe they're just trying to make a quick buck off of you.

Default Well, my rear pads have been done at 30k intervals in the rear but still on original rotor

at 97k right now. I think they're trying to pull a quick one over him unless he does a lot of braking. I could see the pad wear but not rotor(s).
