Default I use synthetic Mobile 1 0w40 in my '02 A4...

It's not hard to do yourself.

Just buy 4 quarts of oil.
Buy a filter from the VW dealership (cheaper) or order one online (cheapest?).
Takes but a half hour or so.

Don't know of any places in summit though.

Default Airport Rd. Auto Repair in Breck. I always had good service there

Just make sure they use an oem filter and synthetic oil.

and change the oil every 5K miles

and if you have a 1.8T you really do need synthetic

Default FWIW, my car didn't like Mobil1 0w40. Pentosyn 5w40 seems to run much better in it.

And Blackstone analysis also shows improvement between the two (iron and lead levels). So its not just some psychological thing.

Default I agree. Mobel 1 is not what it used to be. Pentosyn 5W40 is the way to go!

Default what you don't believe something that goes against conventional wisdom?

I just had Mobil1 0w40 just removed from the car but have yet to send the sample off to Blackstone. All I can say is that when the car was cold and sat for 12+ hours, the first minute or three after starting it, there would be some engine noise. To my totally uneducated ears/mind, I would say it was lifter noise. Putting Pentosyn 5w40 in the car removed that noise.

Here are the past 4 Blackstone samples. First was Mobil1 0w40, next three are Pentosyn 5w40. Next sample will be Mobil1 0w40 again, but only reason I put that in there is I had 7qts of it that I bought in Dec 06 but never got used. So it was in from Oct 07 to Jan 08.
