Default Cold!!!...but a lot of fun. It's a 2.3 mile track with three 100mph+ straights and unbanked...

sweeper corners abounding. I drove on the track fri, sat, & sun, and pretty much used up a full set of pads (replaced the backs brake pads there on saturday, and the front pads once I got back to Denver) and put a fair amount of scalloping wear on the S-03's. I think, before I take the car to anymore big, fast tracks, I'm going to pick up some dedicated race tires and wheels, and stop abusing my expensive street tires! There were 96 drivers, but less than half were in Audis (lots of BMW M3s, Porsche 944s, and some odds-and-ends: a Volvo that crashed, a beautiful AMG Merc, three 933 twin turbos, three Z-06s that ruled the track, a Ford Fiesta race car that blew his engine, a Miata who spun-out right in front of me, etc, etc,) Several Audis had problems (turbos, powersteering, brakes, the usual), but the big crash of the weekend was a first-timer in a brand new RUF Porsche, put it a**-end into a wall. The pavement's not as nice as Second Creek, and with rain the first night, (even though they swept the track) there was standing water in a couple places through most of saturday. Makes for some real oversteer opportunities, and Will (instructor at Steamboat and Second Creek) didn't let the opportunity go unutilized. (For anyone who doesn't know Will, he's a great driver, but loves to drive his S4 sideways. He completely used up a set of new Kumo's in one weekend). Brendan, also of Denver, had to rent a truck and trailer to get home his '84 Ur-Quattro Coupe, when he blew a turbo the first morning out. (Nobody said this is a cheap hobby, but at least at Quattro Club events, you normally would expect to still be able to drive home under your own power.) All-in-all a great event, and not that bad a drive if you go early and get an extra day of track time in on friday. I'll definitely go back next year.

Default Cool!

Sounds like a kick *** time, and a lot of nice cars. Yeah, I decided I need to get some track tires and a brake kit before I do any more track events.

Default The Fiesta was there last year

and I had a Viper spin in front of me at the end of the front straight. Locked his brakes and spun counter clockwise. Did Brian F from Vail go?
