Default car selling bt... if you sell your car ... do you leave your license plates on?

or do you take them off and the buyer gets new plates?

Default leave 'em on -- less of a hassle that way for the buyer

Default leave em on for the buyer who will then get new plates when tranaction is recorded at the DMV

If you have vanity plates, you can request them back from the person who bought your car.

Default For normal plates, leave 'em on, but...

If you've got custom plates that you value, don't let the new owner drive away with them. The new owner has no incentive to get them back to you, and the DMV won't issue a new set if both are missing.

Default If you wish to keep them, the DMV can issue new ones for the vehicle..

and you can put the originals "on hold' in your possesion for use at a later date.

Default Leave em on. Unlike Nevada where you own the plates for life, you take them off there.

Default take 'em. If the new owner gets parking tickets, and hasn't reported the transaction to the DMV..

the parking tickets are sent to you. Although your Bill of Sale is your proof that you aren't liable for the parking tickets, its still a hassle. When you take the plates, the new owner has immediate need to report it to the DMV and get new plates.
