Default when the car is cold and i first leave for school....

when my rpms go from 3,100-3,200... i hear a whining noise. its only for that extrememly short time, and it happens in first, second, and third (thats the highest gear i get to before i downshift again at the stoplight) from then on it doesnt do it anymore.... any ideas?

only when engine is cold, faint whining noise, around 3k rpms

Default Sounds like the turbo...

Have the oil supply lines feeding the turbo been updated? I believe they were recalled on 97 and some 98 1.8T's. The issue with them was something about insufficient heat shielding causing oil to coke up in the oil supply lines, leading to oil starvation issues in the turbo.

Default would that cause the minor squeal at exactly the same rpms only for the 1st round of upshifts?

this is without accelerating hard...

Default It could...

it would probably sound more like a whistle than a squeal. Once some oil gets in there, it might quiet it down.

Default I had the same, but only in extreme cold with my K03.

It was the turbo. I guess it wasn't getting enough oil at startup.

Default mine does that sometimes. i always thought it was my power steering pump not fully

pumping yet. cuz it goes away after the first round of shiftin. i usually sit for about 30 secs before i take off, and don't usually hear it.
