If you are chipped, I recommend every 4K miles or so.
Both my A4s are chipped, and I do my oil with synth ONLY every 4K miles. Since you have a turbo, it is in your best interest to use Mobil 1.

Eevery 10K, and whatever the dealer puts in it.
I think oil is the biggest myth around the automotive industry. People in Europe drive their cars 10k between oil changes and nothing really happenes to those cars. I got the "that's 'cause gas is better there" speech from my service manager but I think it's all BS coming ffrom someone who probably never even left the state of Texas.
At any rate, my car is a Premiere Purchase so it goes straight back to the dealer as soon as the 39 months are up. I will not spend a dime on extra oil for this car for sure!

You guess are getting punked over on the B5 forum, so I'd thought I'd chime in
It's pretty standard to change the oil every 5k miles, oil filter as well of coarse, from the dealer is the best. We mostly run with K&N drop in filters, unless you've got a cold air intake, so you don't need a new air filter. If you have a K&N I'd recommend cleaning it every 20 or 30K. The dealer will do your major work every 10K.
I think the most popular oil is Mobile One Synthetic 5W30, but the weight will very on where you live. Other than that, washing your car and giving it a good wax every few months is the most important thing.

Every 8K miles (or more) w/ Red Line and Mecca Peformance filter...
I have been doing this for 7 years and have 225K+ miles total from 3 cars (VW/Audi).
For every 2 or 3 oil changes based on peoples 3-5K intervals, I can do one, and have had no "oil related" problems by doing this. I know people who have gone over 10K miles (myself included) with Red Line.
Changing every 3K miles is Jiffy Lube mentality (oil marketing propaganda) and only necessary if you use crappy [crude] dino oil. Every 5K if you really abuse (and I mean abuse) your engine. I drove my '85 Gti like a race car 98% of the time (high revs, dropping clutch, high speeds,..) and managed just under 300K miles on it w/o having to rebuild anything.
You can follow the factory maintenance, but I would use a good synth like Red Line, Kendall GT-1 Full Synth or other.
Copper core spark plugs at the same time or earlier (every 5K miles).
Air filter depends on environmental conditions; but perhaps every 10K as a guide (or longer).
