Default Cloudy Chrome Trim

Can anyone tell me how best to clean chrome trim. Even after a good wash, the chrome seems cloudy. Thanks for any advice.

Default No good answer for you...

People have complained about it before. Metal polish doesn't seem to do anything. As best as we can tell, 2.7Tdallas is right. Somehow, the aluminum is oxidizing, and whatever they apply to the chrome trim to keep the elements out, also hinders you from polishing it to a mirror bright shine. I haven't seen a solution for this posted yet.

Default I think that is becuase modern chrome trim is

a plastic piece, with a chrome layer, then coated in some sort of plastic. When the plastic starts to break down, it looks cloudy

Default Re: which chrome trim do you mean???

Mostly the chrome on the bumpers, but I also notice it around the doors.

It sounds like I'm probably out of luck. What do you suppose it would cost to have the Chrome replaced? I know, probably ridiculously expensive .....
