Default Car was in the sun today and noticed a few more swirl marks than I was expecting. What am I doing

wrong?

I double checked my terry cloth towels to make sure they're 100% cotton. Did the match test. You're supposed to get like a charred look, right? Sort of like a wick burning.

I always wash, wax, polish, etc. in straight lines. Really careful with the applicators too, so there's no crud in them.

I'm using high quality products... GEPC, IHG, Blitz.

Other than being a black car, which is just a pain anyway, the only thing I can think of is the California Duster. But I've heard people swear by this. I use it pretty much daily and only on dust, not baked in crud (which I wash my car weekly anyway so there's no time to build up). Are you supposed to wash the CD after a while? If so, how?

The only other thing I can think of is the dealer put in some swirls during the prep. But I just IHG'd and GEPC'd 6 weeks ago and have 3 coats of Blitz on it, so I don't think the products have worn off yet.

Help!!! It's driving me nuts. I'm going to use 3M swirl mark remover and re-GEPC this weekend, but once I get it perfect, I might to make sure nothing I'm doing is screwing it up.

Default I think a lot of people here are confusing scratches with swirl marks. At least AFAIK, swirl marks

are the signature blemishes left by a poorly used rotary polisher. They don't look so much like scratches, but uniform dull "swirls" on the paint. What you get with cheap or dirty towels are actually scratches, they may be straight or circular, but they are still scratches, not swirls. That said, you have a black car and, speaking from experience, if it's a daily driver, it's never going to look 100% perfect. It's impossible.

When you wash, do you use two buckets?

Default I'm thinking they must have been left by the dealer because I've never used a "swirl" motion and I

have distinct swirls. They're only visible in bright, bright sunlight, so I guess that's the good news.

I wash with one big bucket filled with lots of water. I don't think this is the problem though because I wash so frequently, that there's never really grit on the car. In fact, most of the time I wash with just water, just to get the dust off.

Do you think 3M Swirl Mark Remover is overkill if it's a very light scratch?
