Default yay to junkyard finds! Local Pick n' Pull had an '83 or '84 4000

I believe it was even a diesel (thought I saw remnants of the badge on teh back of the car).

It was pretty much complete minus the calipers wheels and motor.

I was there hoping to find an '85 and up 4000 or 90 to get the pass side tie rod arm for my 4000 so I could get hacking at it, but unfortunately all they had was this 4000 which has a different pass side setup. What I did come away with was lots of parts for the UrQ though :-P

The immediate part I took was the top of the driver's side fender so I could get rid of the rust on the tops of the UrQ fenders... then I looked inside and noticed that it had an absolutely mint interior! I then looked at the dash and realized, holy hell... this is the same dash as the UrQ, and there's not a single crack on it! How much? $30 out the door!! You know I have a problem when I'm still smiling about that find

I also scored a pair of V8 rear calipers and carriers (def a rare find as they normally don't have V8s there, let alone audis in general!!!) for another $30. So I was a bit down about not finding exactly what I needed for the 4000, but I def did walk away with a few other goodies that will be of great importance

Just figured I'd share.

RocketSLC (Dan) is coming through for me and is sending me a pass side tie rod assembly for the 4000, so hopefully once I get that tuesday I can get the car back in action and ready to head up to watkins glen. I was just going to take the A4, but after talking with Dan and having him harass me a bit, I'm going to put the effort in to get the 'ol girl up and ready. Hopefully time will be on my side, but I have a feeling I'm going to have a few late nights ahead of me. Keep your fingers crossed!

Default lol... yeah I know, they're ridiculously expensive!!!

I think I'm going to soak it in armoral when I get home so it doesnt even think about cracking

BTW, this car only had 131k on the clock, but I didn't tear into the cluster to see if the ODO gear was in one piece and working.

Default My 83 cgt has a perfect dash - but I keep it hidden under a dash mat.

Kind of silly - because it's perfect it never gets seen. My urq has a 20 crack dash - it's seen all the time.

Default Don't do that!!!

Armor All has a reputation for doing exactly that.... drying out and cracking dashes. Store it in a dark, cool, dry place. The cracking is caused by heat and heavy sunlight exposure. If you can, grab the headlight brackets and trim, they go for top $$ in Europe as that setup is rare there.

Default yeah, our UrQ dash has a min of a 20 crack :-P

unfortunately the pass side speaker was cracked on this dash I picked up, just like the UrQ, so I'll have to figure something out there. Still kicking myself for tossing those speakers in the box of goodies I sold Ray... unfortunately he doesn't have them anymore as I think they went with his blue 4000 to supercoupe.

Default hmmm... might go back and grab them...

chrome bezels and light setups were all there. We'll see if it's worth my effort.

What do you suggest using on the dash? Obviously hiding it won't be an option in the future once installed in the car.

Default If the rear bumper trim is there (2 section piece above the rear bumper)

email me, I have some $$ for you if you can snag em for me

What color was the interior? If brown I have some more $$ for you if youd be so gracious to snag 2 manual window cranks and the shift boot (mines cracked and dry) & shift console piece (if it has no power window slots... my 84 is converted to manual windows so now theres 2 holes above the shifter where the switches went) Lemme know if you can help!
