Default odometer on 87 4000

i went to my dealership and ask for a new odometer cable and they told me it does speed and mileage! if i could see how fast i was going the cable is fine! is that true they also told me that its more likely the acuall cluster it self. is that the truth or is it that my dealership is retarted? and if that is the the way i have to go how much of a pain in the *** is it to get a new cluster in?

Default truth

the worm gear on your odo has most likely worked it's way out. Search the forum archives for info on how to fix it. there are some good write-ups on it.

Default plus its easy to pull out the cluster. 6 screws and it should just pop out.

just remember to get the screw on each side of the cluster so you dont break the mount points on it trying to pull it out.

Default Re: odometer on 87 4000

Hey its my first time post. But I actually just changed my speedometer and its not that hard. There are four 5mm bolts in the back of the intrument cluster that holds the speedometer. Just find another cluster and switch it out will show you pictures if you need tommorow.
