higher octane is recommended for these cars though. The faster/cleaner burn is easier on the moving parts.
Dodge recommends my truck run with 87, they claim higher octane will hurt the engine. My Cobra only likes 93+, but the 9.5 to 1. Low octane in that is not good.

My 1.8L (10:1) really only pings during quick upshifts when I get back on the gas. It's bad with 87 and much improved with 93. I think I get slightly better mpg with 93 (maybe 1-2).

i tried it a few times, running a few months on 89, then switching to 93.. every time i switched to 93, the car ran better, felt more peppy, and i got better gas mileage.
i am witness to it's benefits.. the price sucks though, usually .20 more for each gallon

Given that the difference stays at 20 cents. Now, Shell has been charging 2 more cents/gal for their new "V-power" stuff. I wish they would quit that!

My car pings like crazy with 89. Put in the 93 and most of it goes away. I have a 272 cam and the timing tweaked a bit but it pulls great at around 4500 rpm. Forget it if I'm running 89 though...

My checking account shrinks much faster on 93.
