Default Any body here done serious engine work on a 86' 4k? Few Questions

I have a 4k with *many* miles, not sure quite how many becuase the gauge is broken.

What im wondering is how much would it cost me to "refurbish" the engine. As far as I know the head gasket is bad, it spews a "moderate" amount of oil of out the seal.

The suspension is rock solid, new shocks all around, and bearings. (New exaust too!)

What does a good tuneup run for a 4k?

TIA

NICK

rebuild... prob gonna need new gaskets everywhere, check tolerances on head and block, clean injectors and CIS and everything that goes along with a tune up...

tuneup... new wires, plugs, distributor cap, rotor (total about $110), air filter, fuel filter, coolant flush, brake fluid change, tranny fluid (and if a manual i would do this too) change, of course oil change, check for leaking gaskets anywhere, check timing...prob wanna do a timing belt too... (waterpump, tensioner pulley, belt change), and thats prob about it...

Default depends on how much work you are going to do yourself....

What we do is:

Teardown the entire engine and do a re-build. Before rebuild we send out the head to have the valves machined (for example 3 angle valve job). We hone the cylinders and reassemble the motor with new gaskets and rings... total cost including head work is about $500-$600.

you will be surprised with the gains you will get with a good rebuild/freshen up!!!
