Have you done a timing belt change since the mods? Belt could be off a tooth, or it may have just jumped a tooth.

He had already checked that possibility - it's OK.
Since this project (bringing the car back to life)over the last year, many components were regularly renewed. He changed the injectors - said he used the quattro reference for these... so theys hould be OK ? The other was the fuel pump - if he put one in for a 110 hp KX engine, could it now be insufficient ?

Injectors and fuel pump from the KX work fine with my 2.3.

Ray, in NC: 2001 A-6 Quattro: Casablanca White, w/black leather interior. 2.8Ltr non-turbo 30 valve dual OHC six cyl, cold weather package, dual exhausts, moonroof/sunroof, Audi symphony console stereo w/8 bose speakers, OEM 16" wineglass ronal rims, individual climate controlls, frt and rear anti-sway bars, anti-theft package, upgraded front suspension. The family ride. This car kills the newer Impalahhhhs, honduhs, hyundahassss, and pretty much everything GM, Chrysler, and Ford makes. 1984 4000-S [non-quat], black re-paint , 1.8ltr 4 cyl, KYB struts front and back, front and rear anti-sway bars, OEM Audi Radio [Blaupunckt], CD player w/ MB Quart speakers, OEM 13" ronal snowflake rims. 395,865 miles and counting, 31 mpg on combined city/hgy mileage. I've only taken mine up to 108mph so far. I seem to have a bit of a shimmy at the upper range so I backed off as it became more pronounced at that speed.
