Default How do you decode a VIN?

I am looking at an older Audi 100, and it has a 10 digit, number-only vin. How do you decode that to find what year it is?

Default "The 10th character in your Audi's VIN tells you the model year. "

Default And??? Did you read the link?!?! "The 10th character in your Audi's VIN tells you the model year. "

Look @ the chart, it goes all the way back to '71.

The later #'s in VIN's were just for assembly plant location & production sequence.
