Default From Brazil: the last DKW


One could feel it strange. "What a hell they made in the front?" It is really diferent, but is an original. In its last year of life in Brazil, 1967, DKW-Vemag re-designed the front and the back of our Belcar (in Germany, the AU 1000S) and our Vemaguet (your Universal). In order to modernize it, they created this four lights front. This is one of the last cars to leave DKW's factory in São Paulo. In its property manual, there's a stamp with the date it was bought: december of 1967. It's an amazing car, 100% original.

DKWs are non-existent in the United States

Default Beautiful. How much of that is original and how much has been restored?

DKWs are just extremely rare here.
What type of engine/transmission is in there? Looks like there might be a shifter on the steering column, but I also see something that might be a shifter on the floor.

James,
it's 100% original. It's engine is a two stroke 1000 cc with original DKW transmission, 4 gears plus back. The shifter is in the steering column. I don't know what you saw in the floor, but probably is the hand-brake.

Default That is turely a nice vintage car. I've never had the pleasure of seeing one at a car

That's awsome. Your right on with the grill though. It's got more crome than the front bumper on a `58 Oldsmoblie. What a sharp car. It's good to see that some of the DKW's are still around.

Hi there DKW lowers! What may look as a floor shifter is probably either the handbreake or the **** for the freewheel. These two items where at least fitted just under the dashboard on the 1959 DKW 3=6 that my father drowe in the late 70s.

If I ever get to live in Brasil I will get me one of theese. Are they difficult to find? We got quite plenty of 3=6 and AU 1000 here in Sweden.

It?s not very expensive a DKW in Brasil, you can see some of them in: www.mercadolivre.com.br , search for DKW or Vemag (Veiculos e Maquinas Agricolas) the name of manufacturer in Brasil.
