How to get to flap controller motor for the heat?

I have a 1990 V8 Quattro with a broken flap motor so I don't get any heat. My climate bulb flashes for about 10 sec so I know it's most likely the flap motor. Do I have to remove the heater box just to get to the flap controller motor or is it more easily accessible?
Part number that needs to be replaced would be greatly appreciated!

The flap motor resides behind a cover on the driver side of the heater core box. You need to remove the wiper assembly, disconnect the wire for the motor, which usually is tied to the wiring for the wiper motor, and take out a bunch of Phillips head screws to expose the flap motor. It's Item 18 in the drawing, part number 443820511A.

You need to take care in disconnecting the flap arm assembly from the motor. It's plastic and it's pretty old now.
