Default 1991 100 Parts Availability

First it was $650 radiator only available from the dealer, then the $380 fuel pump (ditto) and now its the Power Steering pump for $337 now only available from Audi. What's happening? Just had the PS hoses (from dealer)replaced for a king's ransom. after I've replaced everything it doesn't seem wise to sell and replace it and take on another obligation. I'm too old to do my own work anymore.

Honestly, if your telling the "forum" that after the fact of taking the car to the dealer for these repair your pissed at the cost of them, its your own fault.

If this is just a rant.. then so be it and stop reading this post. (oh and I apologize ;-) )

I don't mean to be rude or put you out or anything like that, but from what I've found of Audiworld, it not only is full of excellent people, but a true wealth of information, including sources for those so called "dealer" items.

You don't have to do your own work, but there are many places inluding a mechanic listing that will allow you to purchase parts and they'll install them for you.

Default ask my friend ......

this place has saved me so much frickin money. I have ALWAYS consulted here with issues first as there are many who know these cars and their "faults". I have an 89 100 (im assuming similar to my model , and I will be corrected if wrong ;-)) everything from window regulators to Mobil 1 vs. Pentosin (which 9 mos. running it with no issues, knock on wood) to the alarm system, and how to disable it. Yeah trivial stuff, but was also told "well you will have to bring it in, it's going to be XXX.XX $$$. " I always ask here first ...

The dealer didn't do the service and it's not a rant, It's a question for owners more experienced than I am. I have a good Indy. He can't get most of the parts now except through the dealer. Guess I'll stay on the C5 forum with my A6. Nobody ever hopped on me there.

from a read and re read of your post I think we were working under the assumption that you have already given in to the dealer. Asking, my friend, is "Do you know where to get _________ " or "Here is the deal.....any thoughts?" -J

P/S pump - $236 from Parts America/Advance Auto parts.

Fuel Pump - $215 from O'Reilly auto parts

P/S hoses - $38 each rebuilt at my local hydraulic shop.

Radiator - $153 from the www.instockauto.com

All you gotta do is know where to look, or ask the forum first. Usually a reply is minutes away.

Be carefull with the radiator. The 91' had a unique radiator which also had a transmission fluid cooler. You cannot use the same radiator from a 90' or 89'. That radiator is scarce and pricey. I bought one about three years ago and I believe I paid over $300 for it. That was the cheapest I could find and I did look around.

Default Please feel free to come back

This is a quite helpful forum and it would be nice to have another long time/multi Audi owner on board. There is just a time when it seems that everything is breaking down. Altough, you will not be doing your own repairs, it is criticaly important to be involved and be able to trust the mechanic that does the work, and replace only what needs to be done. As another Audi friend had mantioned your 91 Audi has unique radiator that contains cooler for 4 speed auto.
When properly looked after this car could cost less (arguably) to own and operate in long run than C5.
We look forward to help with diagnostics.
