Possibly there are other compressors and bracket setups that will fit?

to answer your questions.........I don't think the mounting bracket is intergal design to the A/C compressor housing. There is, however, a separate uniques Audi bracket that bolts the compressor to the engine block. That Audi bracket can be separated from the A/C compressor and the engine block for use on a compressor lacking the bracket.
As far as sourcing another Denso compressor. Denso sold the same compressor for application on 85-87 Toyota Cressida, 87-90 Acura Legend, 86-91 Mercedes Benz 420 SEL, 86-91 Mercedes Benz 560 SEL, 86-89 Mercedes Benz 569 SL with cars sold in the USA. I am pretty sure these same cars were sold in your "land down under." They may have a different size pulley, but it is still the same Denso compressor. Switching your old pulley to a unit off one of the above cars will work. Good info when visiting a car wrecking yard or sourcing through a parts store. Doing this should be a lot less expensive and time consuming then trying to source a compressor from the USA. Good hunting, regards Rooster 2 (Larry) |

Thanks for the info, fellows - my people here did not have any idea of any other cars with same compressor - I cannot see why there is not available another compressor to be fitted....

that your mechanics didn't know that the same Denso compressor was used on Toyota, Mercedes, and Acura cars back in the 1980's. Only someone selling rebuilt A/C compressors would learn that over time.
The only way I figured the interchangeability, is that a Denso A/C compressor that I bought from a wrecking yard, had a "rebuilt" sticker stuck on it, as well as a Toyota stock number stuck on the compressor. I have to assume that this compressor began its life on a new Toyota. Someone here on the forum listed the info of other applications of the Denso compressor on other cars. |
