Default So you want to make your own radio removal tool?

Here's how I'd do it:

1. Print out the image I give you here. It's 1:1 scale at 72 dpi, so you have to print at 72 dpi, which will be good enough. This picture is your template.

2. Cut the shape of the tool out.

3. Trace the template on a piece of 1/32" thick brass (from a hobby store, or use scrap metal) or other fairly soft metal.

4. Drill the hole in the round area. Size is not critical, but a hole will let you get a better grip on the tool.

5. Cut the tool out with tin snips, but don't try to cut the notch just yet.

6. Use a small file for the notch and for touching up.

7. Use a hammer to gently straighten out the metal, which has warped during cutting.

8. You may want to use sandpaper to bevel the edges slightly, so you won't cut yourself on the removal tool.

Default OR you can get a 50 cent camp from HomoDepot

cut it on a 30 degree angle and be just as happy.

I know this works because I've made my own tools

Default Let me just say that no matter what you do...

...be SURE you put the things in the RIGHT DIRECTION. No one bothered to mention to me (seemed like no one knew) that if you put them in the wrong way, it jams the springs and then the radio is stuck. I took it to the dealer and they were nice enough to give me a new radio (well, because when they tried to get it out they snapped part of the radio off), but I would have been screwed otherwise.

Default well since you're gonna be at the stealership with your Raj inspired alignment...

you might as well borrow some other tools too. Be sure and snag a 1552 for me while you're at it.

Thanks

Default SHARP POINTY side goes on the OUTSIDE

so it pushes the spring loaded latches IN.

I would think that such a concept is intutitive no?

Default I've spoken to the techs before....

I want to kill one of them because he lied to me, lazy piece of human trash.

OMAR at DCH audi is a dweeb, he lied to me about the installation of the instrument panel on my car.

Default It says on the tool "TOP L" and TOP "R"

Well, on the homemade one it doesn't say it. ;-)
