Default How do I remove the mini spare from underneath the ....

third seat in an C4 Avant? I obviously am doing something wrong because as far as I have tried, the spare hits the bottom of the third seat and/or gets hung up on the black "volcano" that the spare is mounted to. I know if I remove the seat bottom I can get it out but that doesn't seem to be a user friendly solution, i.e. a wife having to use a 24 mm socket to get at the spare on the side of the road.

TIA (I did search the archives but didn't find what I was looking for)

Default Got an answer on the C4 100/A6 Forum: Remove seat with lug wrench. (What a dumb design).

Default Rip out 3rd seat, swap in full size spare well from an UrS, problem solved ;-)

Added bonus: Your family's life won't be at risk from traffic doing 80 while you're forced to try to keep the speed under 60.

Default Not quite so easy. The bottom of the seat is part of the "load deck" when it is flipped. I will...

need to a) find a non-third seat ecru load deck and b) remove the black "volcano" thing to which the spare is mounted.

I don't have kids so nobody would be riding in the third seat while I own the car.

Default When I got my Avant I asked if there was a no-third-seat version. Answer seemed to be "no"...

I agree the setup kind of sucks but the third row seat is actually semi-useful for keeping e.g. grocery bags upright. And there is a little mini-trunk underneath to keep small things out of sight.

Default But what is with the black "Volcano"? It is a real waste of space.
