Default Started on the clutch today....

Just got the front suspension (need to do wheel bearings) axles, driveshaft, and exhaust out.
That damn front driveshaft CV was solid crust. Nasty. No wonder it was making noise. Support bearing still looked good. Damn that F'in exhaust is HEAVY!

Question...Does teh front subframe need to be removed to get the trans out? It's not looking like it does, but I'm curious.

Default No, the subframe doesn't have to come out.

Just exhaust and driveshaft and front axles.

And yeah, the stock exhaust is f**king heavy.

I advise begging, borrowing, or stealing a real transmission jack if you don't have one. I did mine with a floor jack and it really sucked.

Default Cool. Thanks.

Did you have to jack the front of the engine up any to help manipulate the trans out or did you have enough room to just slide it back and down?

Default I used a "transverse bar". It pulled the front of the engine up.

Transverse bar

A jack under the oil pan would work instead, but it would make working underneath a lot more crowded. If I had a longer garage I would have bought an engine hoist rather than the transverse bar, since it is pretty useless except for this one operation.

I tore one of my engine mounts with the transverse bar. I kept wanting the front of the engine higher to get the trans lined up.

Default The gear box can be removed without disasembling the front axles

Just hold them with a rope or something; right one should be hold at the higher position you can, and the left one should be hold as foward as possible- the gear box comes in/out easylly. The front wheels never come out- this will save you a lot of work/time
