After searching many back posts about roof leaks but most not being any real help I spent this morning dissasembling my S6 roof ( tired of not driving car in rain ).
Here is the scoop: The 'rain channel' is a metal gutter that goes across the roof opening under the rear sunroof seal seam. The front and side seams are outside the interior opening so water that drips past the felt gasket drains out the 4 roof drains. Because the roof travels back the rear part has nothing under it to catch the drips. The water channel slides behind the roof panel and when you close the roof the side mounts drag it to a spot under the rear felt seam. The water goes into this channel and because it has an arch to it water travels to the side gutters. SO WHAT GOES BAD AND WHY DO YOU GET WET WHEN YOU STOP > The two tabs ( small arms ) that attach on either side of the sunroof slide that drag it into position break ( SEE PICTURE ) After they break the first time you open the roof it pushes the ' water channel' back . When you close the roof without those tabs attached it stays back and there is nothing to catch and direct the water at the rear felt seal so it drips on the inside. First hard stop and out it comes .
Another easy way to tell if this is your problem : on the glass roof cars if your shade goes back into the roof too far it's because the tabs are broke and the channel isn't held by the roof panel.
THE FIX : order a new " water channel " and replace
THE QUICK FIX SO YOU DON'T GET WET TODAY: Tip roof up, look inside with good flashlight, use coathanger with hook at end to retrieve water channel from back of roof, pull foward to position at rear of roof panel under rear seam , then tip roof down ( closed ) .DON'T OPEN ROOF It will stay in place and keep you dry UNTIL you open the roof again.

How much was the channel? (P/N 4A0 877 633) Did you replace the guides?
Guides P/N 4A0 877 647.
Thanks for the write up, Lee. There is another write up about it back a few years - maybe in the 100/A6 pages.
My chanel is as yours was - only leaks in the car wash.

Thanks!
I know this is an ooold thread, but just wanted to post up a big general thanks to the audiworld community for always coming through!
As I sit here waiting for a hurricane to drop in this weekend, I'm feeling good after reading this post and retrieving the rear drip channel from the deep recesses of my roof. After a thorough water test, it's working as designed and now I just need to order up the replacement parts to permanently fix it.

There are better descriptions of the process needed to access the rain tray and repair or replace it. I recommend you search other places and forums or sites to get a complete write-up on the repair.
