Default Oil Filter Question

Would there be any advantage to using the OEM oil filter manufactured for the V6 engine, as in the neuS4, over the OEM oil filter manufactured for the I5 engine, as in the UrS4? I understand they'll both fit to the UrS4 engine, but the V6 filter looks like it has a bit more volume and thus, I would think, slightly more filtering capacity.

Default Re: Oil Filter Question

All other things being equal (which I assume they are), the new V6 filters are twice the price of the I5 ones.

By the way, as an interesting aside - Changed my buddies 98 A6 oil filter the other day. Filter on the car - Factory Audi Filter. Changed to : Factory Audi Filter stamped with german for "long interval filter" (made to last longer between changes and thus one would figure filters better). The kicker: The normal one was BIGGER physically than the "long interval filter". Go figure.

Default Re: Oil Filter Question

Click the image to open in full size.

I use the larger VW Diesel filter.

Holds a quart of oil, adds almost a quart of oil to my oil system for added thermal reserve.

Twice the filtering media, keeps the oil from turning black sooner.

European Car magazine did a story on this a couple years back.

I've been using the larger filter for more than 7 years on all my Audi's, with out a hitch!

Highly reccomend it!

Default Thanks; where can I get them, other than a VW dealership?

Default I noticed the same thing on my A4 (-D vs. -J filter on 99.5+ models.)

According to the parts list, my 2000 A4 is supposed to have the -J (2-yr/shorter filter.) I found the -D on my car from the last dealer oil chnage. Somebody was sleeping! I was a little worried at first, but I'm sure I'm right.
