rear differentail gear ratio.
What would happen if I mount an s6 rear diff to my a6 wagon? The gearing is 4.11 on the s6 and I'm not sure what the ratio is on the A6. My wagon is an auto so I'm not sure if the 4.11 would even work on my car. If anyone knows anthing about the ratio differences I could sure use your help. Cheers!

If you have rear final drive w/ code letters AAT, which was manufactured from 07/94, it has..
the same 4.111:1. Earlier rear drives, Code letters AET and CKL, have a final gear ratio of 3.889:1. Unless you match the specified gear ratio, you shouldn't use another rear final drive w/o changing the transmission to match.

Re: rear differentail gear ratio.
Thanx gary for the info . So my a6 is a 95Q and I'm not sure were to look for the code that you mention for the exact model. I know that there's a green dot diff. and a yellow dot but I can't seem to find either on the differential? AET and CKL must be the model difference. My A6 is an auto with diff lock, if you can help I sure would appreciate it. I can't stand the vibration anymore. Thanx

Per my Bentley Manual, the code letters are located on the left side, towards the input shaft,...
slightly above the centerline of the driveline. Since you have a '95 A6, you probably have the AAT rear drive. Check the nameplate on the doorjam to see if your car was built after 7/94.
