Default Ext Warranty question: Anyone heard of "Protection Plus" (dba C.A.R.S)

An indy dealer is offering me an extended warranty on an 2002 A6 Avant (61k miles) from "Protection Plus" out of Pennsylvania. I've searched the fourms extensively and I cannot find any mention of them. The companies website is a little suspect, as are their BBB reports.

I've read the positive feedback on Warranty Direct, Extended Auto Warranty, and Warrantybynet.com (no TX contracts). I'll likely go with one of the leaders but I wanted to check the forum for feedback. If this company is a fly-by-night sham it might speak to the indy dealer I'm working with.

tia, ep.

Default You're right to be wary. That A6 is out of factory coverage, so you'll find few

true EXclusionary plans available. Most likely this is an INclusionary plan that lists the items covered and that does not cover what is not explicitly listed - very limiting, even though the lists look long. Still probably expensive, too.
Another AW'er told me that AUL (Girlroad's plan) writes EXclusionary (covers all but what is excluded, most like bumper to bumper) for "used" cars like this one. I do not yet have access to AUL plan, only to Gold Key, so know nothing about pricing or availability. I called them and hope to hear more soon.
Write me anytime if I can give advice or help you read the contract proposed to you - and by all means, read the full thing before you sign (not just the summary or brochure). Also, try internet brokers including this guy called AAAutoWarranty.com. Beware high pressure sales tactics reportedly used by some brokers. The best line I hear from AW'ers is that the broker says the price goes up tomorrow. Puh-leeze. "And if you put up our sign in your lawn for 30 days we'll take another 20% off your siding job, folks."

Default Please "mustbe" correct me if I am wrong but as I understand it any dealer can write an extended

warranty so if you know someone in your area and you trust them (yes I know that trusting a dealer may be an oxymoron) they can write a policy. I have a dealer I trust, they just don't carry cars I like to drive,
unfortunately

Default If I understand you correctly, the answer is yes. You can usually buy an extended

service contract (often called extended warranties) from any source - as determined and controlled by the terms of the insurance company's contract with the selling agent. Some agents can sell any car blind, such as all those internet agents and me, for that matter. Other insurance companies restrict sales to cars that the dealer actually owned in inventory (I once had a plan like that on a car, but it was INclusionary and not EXclusionary like Gold Key is).
So, for example, you need not go back to the dealer who initially sold you the AUL policy to inquire about extending it. I would first try the company directly, though they won't sell direct to the public, and at least get referred to a selling agent who might be able to help. Hope that gets at it. And did you intend for your comment about family friendly to have such a funny double meaning following my sweater joke? It did.

Default Actually no...

I still can't get the hang of where something is going to come up in a long thread...is it newest first or alphabetical? I guess with your post it ended up as an oxymoron
