Default JeffK - just a quick update

Everyone -

As you can imagine, the past two weeks have been EXTREMELY emotionally, physically, and mentally draining. Trying to "start over from scratch," document everything I owned, get back to work, and deal with the loss of all of my pets has been an extremely humbling experience. Thankfully, I did have VERY good insurance through State Farm. They are currently putting me up in a local hotel and covering some of my food and gas. I'm hoping to move into temporary housing sometime this week - until I can find a new place to live more permanently. Unfortunately, I simply didn't have enough coverage for the property I lost. My agent had been nagging me for the past year to review my assets, but I had always pushed it off.

People, I can't emphasize a few things enough:

1. If you are renting and DON'T have renter's insurance, get some . . . NOW!!!

2. If you are a homeowner or renter, do yourselves a favor and revisit how much and what type of coverage you have.

3. If you own a laptop computer, PLEASE, unplug it when you are not at home. It only took a matter of minutes for my laptop power supply to completely destroy my entire home.

4. Finally, if you have pets, give them an extra treat and hug tonight. I can't tell you how much I miss our 3 pugs.

Here is a link to a few pictures of the post-fire wreckage. Ugh.

And here is a link to a picture of each of our three pugs lost in the fire: Lacy (10), Otto (9), and Newman (10mo):

I can't tell you how much it meant to me in the days following the tragedy to have SO many of my close friends and family calling, emailing, and texting me. I'm so thankful and lucky to be surrounded by such a large and close group of friends! I'll make sure to keep everyone up to date with my new mailing address if / when I move, as well as letting you know, from time to time, how the "starting over" process is going for me.

THANKS AGAIN!

JeffK

I have registered at Bed Bath and Beyond for, of all things, a housewarming (odd, since the warming of my house led to this whole mess in the first place) to aid in the whole "starting over" process. The registry is under my name OR registry number 4594576. Additionally, in memory of our pugs, donations can be made to your local animal rescue / shelter.
