Default lug bolts too short?

A post on Jalopnik suggests that the driver purchased new lug bolts prior to the event. This does make some sense. If the bolts were too short, even if properly torqued, not enough of the bolt was engaged with the wheel hub and, consequently, the thread sheared off. Notice that the rear wheels failed first. It appears that once the drive applied the brakes, that the fronts pulled away as well.

Default Nah, the guy changed to track wheels and never torqued them, making many passes. Once one came off

the chassis dynamics sheared the other loose lugs.

Look at the hub in one pic.

When lugs are not tightened, they often shear.
