Default Following my earlier post about how to remove the trim to run AV cables from the boot/trunk up...

to the DVD player in the glove box of my D3 A8, thanks to a Bentley manual owning member of the forum, I have now got one step further in my quest to incorporate the DVD player output to my MMI screen up front (remember that I am a UK member, so I have a tv tuner and high. So I have AV1 and AV2 aux inputs on the TV tuner.

now I need the expertise of someone else....

I have now traced all the existing install of the stand alone DVD player to headrest monitors and the FM transmitter for the cordless headphones. The video output from the DVD player has RCA outputs for video, left audio and right audio. The audios go straight to the FM transmitter, whilst the video simply runs through a splitter cable (no amplifier) and then the two video cables run back along the inner sill on the passenger side then to the interconnection boxes and screens in the headrests.

Now, can I just splice in the L and R audio cables to the audio outputs of the DVD player, before it also runs to the FM transmitter, and similarly splice in the video cable to the tv tuner AV aux input? I am worried that running three screens directly from the DVD player RCA output will not work... I have looked at possibly using a video amp/splitter with 1 i/p and 4 o/p but in the DVD player's spec in the user manual it states an output of 1.0Vpp whilst on the spec for the amp/splitter it quotes an input of 2.0Vpp Is it just a case that the 2.0Vpp is like a max level quoted, and that the DVD player will be just fine? It' a Directed Video unit DV2602 if that helps. The headrest screens are also Directed Vidoe items HVM700 each with AD-6865 interconnection boxes/monitor control units.
Any help would be most welcome, thanks.

Default Sounds like you might want a powered video splitter like the Dietz 1380

but I am not sure price, where to buy it etc.

Default Thanks BD, is it posible to damage the DVD player by trying without a

splitter amp? I'm only wondering if the load on the output appears lower impedence and so may cause damage. Sorry my video knowledge is not good. Or, is the worst that can happen is that a poor signal appears on the screens, or non at all? Thanks.

Default not sure, but I would just guess that the video signal would be too weak...

...without amplifying it for multiple monitors. The video signal is one way from the DVD player (output only) so I doubt that it would cause any damage to the player.

I've been meaning to get a splitter for my car, and wire video jacks (and power) in the center console of my A6. I am also on the hunt for a simple LCD screen (video only) that can just hang from a headrest (velcro strap or similar method). That way, I can have a headrest monitor when I need one, I can just plug it in when it is used, and put it away when I don't need it.

I had considered cutting up a spare set of headrests, but decided against cutting those up.

If you find a good source for the video splitter, let me know. Good lcuk!
