Default Power to an aftermarket head unit

I will be replacing my Delta CC unit with an aftermaket head unit. The stock Delta has several problems, but what I like about it is that I can have the radio on without turning on the ignition. I really want this with my aftermarket unit, but I do not want to wire it so that it is always powered up. I was thinking of putting in secondary power switch that would just send power to the head unit when I want to listen to it without the keys in the ignition. Is this a reasonable idea, and has it been done before?
thanks

Default Unlikely, I don't think anyone has ever had such a peculiar aversion to using the keys

it's not like you have to have the ignition on while listening. So if you're making out in the back of the car you can just lock the doors if you're worried someone will steal the car with you still in it.

Default Never understood why people want that feature either.

It really is more risk than reward. Just turn the key if you want to listen to the radio. If you hard wire it to constant 12V there's always that possibility of forgetting to turn it off and killing your battery.

Currently the stock unit will play without having to use the key switch. That is what I'd like for the new unit.I was looking to find out how its been done and not for petty sarcasm.

Default You asked if it had been done and obviously it hasn't, why would it?

You can't get an aftermarket unit to play for 60minutes with the keys out, to install a manual switch is hardly providing the same function now is it?

Default Check out Blaupunkt headunits...

... the one that I installed in my Mercedes has this feature, as well as a wire for speed dependent sound, similar to the GALA feature...
