Replacing your speakers with components is definately worth it. The stock speakers suck, plain and simple. If you're going to upgrade definately amp the speaks.
You don't have to replace your HU if you don't want to. It will be easier to hook up amps and such and you'll have more features in an aftermarket HU though. But, it might not look as stock as some might hope. As for changing HU, that depends on the year of your Audi. Before 2000 is a breeze, but 2000 and later requires custom work.
