Re: Newbie ?: What is a stealth box?
A stealth box is a specific product made by JL Audio. They fit up under the package shelf in the back of the A4. They consist of two 8 inch JL woofer in an infinite baffle setup. Also, they require you to remove any speakers in your rear deck. You can find them at the JL website. Those don't fit in any car that is a 99.5+ w/o cutting
Minimal cutting, but cutting none the less.
You can pick that stealthbox up for $300 I believe. That may be used only.
The box as 2 8" subs. It's probably comparable to your single 12", however the single 12" will go lower than those 8's.
I'd stick with the single 12 and design a box that uses a side wall of the trunk. Will save space.

HDC is right... but the cutting I've heard is minimal
requires cutting some of the molded carpet in order to fit, but i've never seen detailed pictures...
if you regularly have people riding in your back seat then you'll want to think about putting some 6.5" speakers in the rear doors (using the bose grills) to compensate for the lack of high-range freqs in the back. it sounds great in the front all the time, so i don't miss them at all =)
