Default mothballs!

Great link; many thanks. Love the mothballs section.

Reminds me of a class on spark plugs Porsche sent me to, conducted by Champion.

They had a very fancy single-cylinder test engine for demonstrating octane's effect on (and response to) combustion chamber temps, with readout on an overhead screen.

They also had a very simple demo. The instructor swabbed a long plastic tube with high octane gas, put a rubber stopper in the top end, and applied a flame to an opening at the bottom end.

The gas burned slowly and evenly in the clear tube and the stopper plopped gently out of the end of the tube and landed on the floor.

Then he substituted some special low-octane fuel. He aimed the tube out the window and we never found the stopper.
