Default Driver Information system

I have a A3 1.9 TDI (2002). I would like to add the Driver Information System, anyone know how hard or easy this is?

Default Requires replacing the whole instrument cluster

Further, the controls for the DIS are on the end of the indicator stalk. Best advice would be to find out how expensive parts are, but I think you are looking around 500quid or more for OEM parts. You may be able to find the necessary parts at a scrappy...

NB. you also need to change some codes via a VAG-COM...otherwise the thing won't be opperational.

Default I don't think mileage can reset on cluster after a point. Don't know

if that applies to Europe as well. So the car is labeled a TMU (true miles unknown), which is a very sticky thing here in the US.

Default My US S4 had its instrument cluster replaced at 50,000

The DIS was faded and had it replaced under warranty. The mileage was the same as when I had dropped it off...well, plus a few miles, but whatever.

Default Used part or new? There may be ways around that, but I gather they aren't legal here.

Default It can be done with new clusters. I think you get one shot to set them.

Default It is pretty easy actually

I have it done on my A3. Find a cluster on EBAY, get the stick, and find some one who knows what he is doing to wire the new cluster and recode it. You can change the mileage whenever you want but you will not get the exact mileage you want, because some calculations are done (that's why scottishS4feat.A3 had a couple of miles more). Sadly there are a lot of people who use this and sell cars with re-set mileage

Default The trick is to find such a person, because here it's very illegal.
