Default Another chipping related question...

Does anyone know if the A3 is "ODB II" compliant?

My understanding is that ODB is an On-Board-Diagnostic standard, with a special connector, to which a dealer would connect up a diagnostic computer.

It would seem, see performance forum, that you can get hold of "scan tools" and software, to allow you to diagnose your car yourself.

How does this relate to chipping? Well, I think someone mentioned that unplugging your OEM or "new" chip (if socketed) could cause the "Check Engine Light" to come on, and result in the car going into "limp-dick" mode. (Sorry, couldn't resist that joke!)

This error code can be reset if you have one of these scan tools (ODB II).

So is this possible with the A3, and if so, where can we get this software/tool from (in the UK preferably)?

Cheers,

Alan.

I know that the A3 has some sort of self diagnostic that a dealer can plug in to, to read any errors stored in the memory, I know the self diagnostic memory can also tell if the ecu has been removed without being reset (according to AMD).
I wonder if this device plugs into the socket hidden behind the small rectangular piece of trim aout 25mm x 35mm in the well underneath the ashtray, have you found it?

Mine was reset yesterday, at least i suspect that is what Geff was doing and he had it plugged into a socket on the right hand side underneath the dash, in the area where there is a smaal shelf.

Default John. Found it!! That looks like the 16pin ECU comms port to me!

all I need now is
- a knock-off copy of the software
- a spare ECU (any suggestions?)
- chip the spare ECU
