I don't know if the gear ratios are different, I'd think so. The A3's automatic transmision just don't cut it, slow, noisy, and cheap-feeling. The triptronic in the A4 feels more advanced, shifts are smoother and the car seems to perform better than the A3 automatic.
I chose the A4 over the A3 (both manual) for its features and "it is a family car, honey!". Yet, if you MUST have an automatic, I'd suggest getting the A4. Both cars are great, but I really prefer manual. I'm now pondering what would cost me to change the wife's Jetta VR6 for an A3 1.8T, manual, of course. Hope this helps Carlos |
